So far building my tennis shoe out of cardboard has been pretty difficult. The hardest part has been that the cardboard only folds one way, causing the shoe to look very strange and boxy. It has been hard to cut the pieces out, and make them the same size and shape as the actual shoe it self. Once i had my pieces cut out, the more simple part has been putting them all together. The smaller details that I have just started to add make my model look more realistic. I hope that when all the details and finishing touches are added it closely represents my tennis sneaker.

What I know now
A representational sculpture represents something realistic , whether it be something found in nature or simply a sculpture looking like a specific person. An abstract sculpture comes more from the imagination, and doesn't have to be one specific thing. To make a found object sculpture I would first decide what it is I want to make. After that I would look for objects around me that could help me best create my sculpture, and that would fit together well.
A sculpture I remember
Several summers ago I was with my family in Spain, while we were visiting Barcelona we went to an outdoor exibit of the work Gaudi did. I remember his work becuase it was so different, it was colorful and went in all directions. All the pieces we saw seemed to have come right out of his imagination, there were parts that were all curvy and others were not. It was very interesting to look at.
My skills as an artist
As an artist some of my stregths are coming up with ideas, and being very detailed in my work. Some weaknesses are that I can become easily furstrated if somthing doesnt immidetly work, and somtimes I have a slight difficuly with deadlines.
Why I'm taking intermediate sculpture
I've been taking art in school since 2nd grade, and throughout that time I have worked with many differnet types of materials. There has never been much of an emphasis on sculpture in any of the classes i've taken besides a project with clay here and there. I decided to take the intermediate sculpture class to explore a part of art I have never tried before.
