Reflection on Scale Shift Project

The scale shift project was very fun, but incredibly frustrating at times. In the beginning I had to attach the chicken wire to itself and it felt like a never ending process. The chicken wire was hard to deal with but when I finished I was relieved. The next part that was frustrating was cutting out the circles that would go at the top and bottom for the wire it hold its shape. At the time the art room didn't have a lot of big pieces of cardboard so to make my circles I had to attach a lot of smaller pieces to get the size I wanted. Creating the cap to the cup involved a similar process, but once it was painted it looked very good.

After that was done the fun part began. I enjoyed paper macheing and it gave the cup a nice look. When the paper mache was dry I then painted the starbucks logo. It was hard to paint on top ot paper mache, but I really liked the way it came out. Although this project was frustrating at times I am very happy with the final product.

Reflection on finished shoe sculpture

While working on my shoe I was having a really hard time because I wanted it to look perfect. I soon learned that there was no perfect, and that working with cardboard was quite hard. In teh begininning stages when all the pieces were being glued together it wasn't looking so great, but then I decided to cover it with white paper mache. This helped the over all appearence of the shoe come together, and look like on peice instead of many pieces.

One of the project objectives was to understand relative proportion, which I think I achieved. The shoe was accurately sized, and I included the important detail which distinguish it. Another objective which i believe i achieved was the texture and color, with the materials allowed, the colors and textures where resonably accurate.

Although I encountered some frustration, I am happy with the final product because I did the best I could, and if I were to re-visit a project of this type, I know there are things I would do differently.

Reflection on shoe sculpture in process

So far building my tennis shoe out of cardboard has been pretty difficult. The hardest part has been that the cardboard only folds one way, causing the shoe to look very strange and boxy. It has been hard to cut the pieces out, and make them the same size and shape as the actual shoe it self. Once i had my pieces cut out, the more simple part has been putting them all together. The smaller details that I have just started to add make my model look more realistic. I hope that when all the details and finishing touches are added it closely represents my tennis sneaker.

What I know now

A representational sculpture represents something realistic , whether it be something found in nature or simply a sculpture looking like a specific person. An abstract sculpture comes more from the imagination, and doesn't have to be one specific thing. To make a found object sculpture I would first decide what it is I want to make. After that I would look for objects around me that could help me best create my sculpture, and that would fit together well.

A sculpture I remember

Several summers ago I was with my family in Spain, while we were visiting Barcelona we went to an outdoor exibit of the work Gaudi did. I remember his work becuase it was so different, it was colorful and went in all directions. All the pieces we saw seemed to have come right out of his imagination, there were parts that were all curvy and others were not. It was very interesting to look at.

My skills as an artist

As an artist some of my stregths are coming up with ideas, and being very detailed in my work. Some weaknesses are that I can become easily furstrated if somthing doesnt immidetly work, and somtimes I have a slight difficuly with deadlines.

Why I'm taking intermediate sculpture

I've been taking art in school since 2nd grade, and throughout that time I have worked with many differnet types of materials. There has never been much of an emphasis on sculpture in any of the classes i've taken besides a project with clay here and there. I decided to take the intermediate sculpture class to explore a part of art I have never tried before.
